Tesla Is Restarting California Production, Defying Local Order:

Tesla (TSLA) chief executive Elon Musk extended his decision to stand with city officials in California on Monday as he announced that the automotive industry would "resume production against Alameda County laws."

The decision follows Twitter's release of a top official this past week in opposition to the building's closure rules which meant to curb the publication of the coronavirus. In photos posted Monday, Musk said he would be in the factory, "in line with everyone."
"If anyone is arrested, he tweeted," I ask that it be just me. "
Musk revealed that the restrictions imposed by Alameda County to shut down nonprofit businesses, when Tesla Fremont's factory was established, are extremely aggressive and illegal. On Saturday, the company filed a lawsuit with the government against the province. Musk also threatened to relocate Tesla manufacturers out of California.
In a statement on Monday afternoon, city officials said they were negotiating with Tesla about a plan to fully reclaim the plant.
"We continue to approach the Minimum Basic Operation re-protection program by working on the steps Tesla has agreed to follow," the Alameda County Public Health Department said in a statement. "These measures include improving the employee wellness screening process and engaging frontline staff about their concerns and responding to safety policies."
Musk has received some support from the Trump administration. Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin told CNBC on Monday that the California government must work hard to unlock the local economy.
"He is one of the biggest employers and manufacturers in California, and California must prioritize doing whatever it takes to solve those health problems so he can open up quickly or they will, as he threatens, move his product to another state," Mnuchin said.
But speaking to reporters on Monday, Gov. Gavin Newsom told city officials, saying that each city is being reopened in terms of the basement.
"Also, it is an administration led by the County," he said. However, Newsom said he had "great respect" for Tesla and its founder and said he had spoken to Musk "a few days ago."
In response, Musk tweeted: "Thank you Governor Newsom!"
Newsom added that it expects the council will allow Tesla to reopen "next week," based on his understanding of the deal between the company and local officials.
